Membership

There is simply no place in all of New York like the Montauk Club. Since our founding in 1889, we have been an anchor institution of Brooklyn, and a gathering place for people of wit and good will. We welcome a diverse and growing membership to our landmarked Venetian palazzo in the historic heart of Park Slope. Here, you can grab a drink in our beautiful dining room, with its large bay of stained-glass windows overlooking Plaza Street West, or under the quatrefoil terra cotta arches of our loggia in the summertime. You can enjoy spirited conversation with strangers over a hand-crafted cocktail, or a quiet place to read in front of our fireplace. You can use the club as a workspace during the daytime, maybe play a few rounds of pool for inspiration. You can have game night with friends in our Card Room, or a small private dinner in our Board Room. You can take in an impromptu piano concert, or maybe start one of your own! You can attend any number of events and activities throughout the year, from book clubs and knitting circles, to Dungeons & Dragons and Mystery Nights. And, no matter the reason or the season, you are always encouraged to invite friends, guests, and family to come along and experience the Club for themselves.

Our members are newcomers, transplants, lifelong New Yorkers, and even several-generation Club members. These two-minute recordings from a recent event, Growing Up at the Montauk Club Audio, provided by StoryKeep, give you a taste of what the Club has meant to its members over the decades. We welcome families of all forms to join our membership.

We are a highly sought-after venue for weddings, events, and film shoots (you might even have seen us on TV!), with a fee structure that is not only accessible, but significantly lower than any other private club in New York. There is no initiation fee. Besides the annual dues, there is a nominal, monthly minimum usage of $75; $40 for members under 35; and $15 for members over 70. These charges are incurred only when a member's Club usage in either the bar or dining room is less than the minimum. Our fee structure seldom changes and, if then, only nominally. Dining and bar bills are charged to member accounts. Cash is never exchanged and tipping is not permitted.  Out-of-town members, and members living outside of Brooklyn, enjoy lower rates. Our members also enjoy privileges at Reciprocal Clubs around the world. Our staff is skilled and personable. They will get to know you quickly (and you them!) and make you feel right at home.

There has never been a more exciting time to join the Montauk Club. Our story is over 130 years in the making, and we’re only just getting started! If you’re interested in learning more about joining us, fill out an application here and we’ll be happy to set up a tour.
